Be
a Burn Knight at Burn Night: There is an organization that makes quilts for a summer camp specially for kids who have
been burned badly. Each kid receives one quilt at camp that they will keep forever. These kids arrive at camp with long pants
and hooded sweatshirts; they cover themselves because when they are in public people stare. However, within a short time,
they are all splashing about in their swim trunks or bathing suits and having a merry old time. Why? Because they see that
they aren't so different after all. They're just kids who have scars. At Burn Night we would gather to sew quilts. Or, if
you're not that talented (like me!), there will be other related projects, such as decorating jars to set up at local businesses
for this cause.
ECCO Recycles: This is an organization that purchases used printer cartridges and cell phones.
They provide schools/businesses with a big box to collect these in and when the box is full, we just give them a call and
they will pick up the box, count and categorize the items in the box, and pay us on the spot. We receive up to $5 for each
empty laser cartridge, up to $2 for each empty inket cartridge and up to $1 for each used cell phone. So we get money, they
get to recycle, and the world goes round!
KeyLeader: KeyLeader is a weekend that focuses on the important
lessons of leadership and make lots of new friends. This amazing program is open to people as young as recent eighth grade
graduates, and it's not limited to Key Club members only, so bring your friends! KeyLeader is offered all over the country,
and the cost and program are the same everywhere. Ask a Key Club officer for more information if you are interested. We will
talk more about this at meetings as well.
